Dosimetry Services

Staff at the PNNL have operational experience and expertise in nearly all areas of internal and external dosimetry. We have a wide range of expertise in internal dosimetry including standards development, computer modeling, intake evaluations, bioassay and internal dosimetry program design, ANSI N13.30, technical basis and procedural documentation and bayesian statistics. Specialties include plutonium and uranium intakes, contaminated wounds and embryo/fetal calculations.

We provide DOE Laboratory Accreditation Program (DOELAP) accredited external dosimetry processing capabilities for the onsite processing of thousands of routine and special dosimeters. This includes state-of-the-art processing capabilities for personnel, environmental and nuclear accident dosimeters. Tens of thousands of dosimeters are processed in the dosimeter processing laboratory each year. These capabilities comply with all DOE and national quality control requirements. Using our facilities, we can also process nuclear accident dosimeters, analyze biological samples and assess personnel dose in the event of a nuclear criticality.

PNNL staff are active in national and international standards testing and development, and we provide technical and operational support to DOELAP and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP).
