Research Capabilities

Fluid-Thermal Modeling

Fluid-thermal modeling capabilities at PNNL are represented by depth of experience and involvement in a wide array of thermal and fluid systems. Applications range in scale and variety from nuclear power reactor cooling systems and particulate solids mixing in liquids to fuel cells and micro-channel chemical reactors. Staff experience includes code development for specialized applications and general CFD modeling. Commercial software tools and unique software toolsets developed at other federal laboratories are also used. These models are backed up by strong experimental capabilities and facilities and applied mathematics and physics expertise.
