Fungal Biotechnology

In fungal biotechnology PNNL provides fundamental research and enabling technology for novel processes by using filamentous fungi to convert biomass to high-value chemical products as a means to reduce oil dependency. We integrate molecular biology (including genomics and proteomics), biochemistry, chemostat technology, biochemical process engineering and genetic engineering to better understand and control fungal metabolism. From this knowledge fungal isolates are discovered, modified and cultured to develop new conversion processes.
