Multifluid Research Laboratory (MFRL)

The MFRL has experimental capabilities for conducting multiphase flow experiments (i.e., water, non-aqueous phase liquid and gas) in batch, column and multi-dimension flow cell setups. The laboratory has automated data collection capabilities and specialized measurement devices that include the following:

  • A dual-energy gamma radiation system for non-destructive measurement of bulk density, fluid content and/or salt content in large multi-dimensional soil systems
  • A 1.0 x 2.0 x 0.1 m flow cell with transparent side walls and ports for sensors and injection/extraction of fluids and gases.
