System Assessment Capability Computer Cluster

The Hanford Site-Wide Assessment project operates a dedicated computer cluster with the following features:

  • Operating system is Red Hat Linux 7.3
  • Control CPU - two 1.7-Gb Pentium 4 processors
  • 128 slave CPUs - 1-Gb Pentium 3 processors
  • 4 slave CPUs - 2.3-Gb Pentium 4 processors
  • 26 slave CPUs - 2.7-Gb Pentium 4 processors
  • Two Linux analysis workstations, each with a 1.7-Gb Pentium 4 processor and 4 Gb of memory
  • 5.2 terabytes of main disk space configured in a RAID-5 system
  • 1.2 terabytes of scratch disk space (throughput into the scratch disk space is about 360 megabytes/sec)
  • Tape backup system
  • Uninterruptible power supply.

Each slave processor is connected into the main disk array with a dedicated 100 megabit/sec connection. The cluster controller and the analysis workstations are connected to the main disk array with dedicated gigabit/sec network connections. The entire cluster is connected to the Battelle internal network with gigabit/sec network connections.
