Biography

Dr. Neeway specializes in the understanding of the long-term behavior of nuclear waste forms in geological environments. His studies have focused on secondary phase formation effects on the stability of glasses, the effect of repository near-field engineered barriers on glass durability, the diffusion of alkali metals in the glass matrix, the relative stability of various minerals in multiphase waste forms, and the immobilization of technetium in selected phases. He has used various solid and solution analysis techniques such as SEM/EDS, XRF, TEM, ToF-SIMS, nano-SIMS, APT, IC, ICP-MS, and ICP-OES in his research and is able to model the chemical environment with geochemical software.

He is a member of the American Ceramic Society and the American Chemical Society.
