Biography

Karsten joined PNNL in 2016 as a senior engineer after over twenty years in commercial hardware and software development. He spent the previous ten years at a major microprocessor and system-on-chip manufacturer developing specialized hardware and software to evaluate, validate, stress and break new component designs as well as work around the flaws thereby identified. Over that timespan Karsten worked on projects involving components intended for use in platforms ranging from servers through car infotainment systems to wearables and worked with many interface standards. Prior to his microprocessor/SOC position Karsten spent a decade as a consulting engineer specializing in lab-based analysis of troubled client hardware designs, isolating hardware and software root causes and providing short-term work-arounds and long-term resolutions as needed.
