ETD Garners R&D 100 Award for Cesium Cancer Treatment

August 2006
ETD's Larry Greenwood, Darrell Fisher, Chuck Soderquist, Mark Murphy and Roman Piper received an R&D 100 award for the cesium-131 brachytherapy seed, a powerful new prostate cancer treatment. Jointly developed by IsoRay and PNNL, this treatment has been acclaimed by doctors as the most significant advance in seed implant therapy in more than 15 years. The seed has been FDA-cleared to deliver a precisely measured radiation dose to malignant tumors of the prostate. Its innovative design delivers its therapeutic radiation faster and more evenly than other radioisotopes and its short half-life minimizes side effects associated with radiation therapy. Congratulations to you all!
