Nanotech Team Wins 2007 Innovation Award

July 2007
Congratulations to ETD's Ward TeGrotenhuis, Susie Stenkamp, and Richard Zheng on winning a prestigious R&D 100 Award for their microchannel gas-liquid processing device. R&D Magazine presents the awards annually to the 100 most innovative scientific and technical breakthroughs of the past year. The microchannel device manages heat and recovers water to balance consumption in fuel cell systems and fuel processors. Its compact size and ability to operate in a wide range of conditions make it ideal for portable or mobile fuel cell applications. Also, the device is useful for removing sulfur from diesel. With the sulfur removed, diesel can be converted into hydrogen for fuel cells. The technology was developed with funding from NASA and DOE's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office.
