Wang Leads Invention of Steam Reforming Method and Catalyst

April 2005
Congratulations to ETD's Yong Wang, Velocys' Lee Tonkovich, and Saint-Gobain NorPro's David VanderWiel for their foreign patent award in Taiwan (#206889). The patent is for an invention of both a catalyst used in steam reformation and the method of using the catalyst. Unlike catalysts used in other methods of steam reformation, this catalyst is highly active and very resistant to coke formation, allowing for operation under lower steam-to-carbon ratios. Lowering the ratio translates into reduced costs for such processes as syngas from natural gas conversion and extracting hydrogen for fuel cells. Again, congratulations!
