Mercury Removal Team Takes In Environmental Award

April 2005
Congratulations to ETD's Shas Mattigod, Richard Skaggs, and Kent Parker and Energy's Glen Fryxell on receiving a Technology Merit Award from the Environmental Business Journal. They received this prestigious honor for Self-Assembled Monolayers on Mesoporous Silica for mercury, or simply thiol-SAMMS. This quick and inexpensive technology absorbs mercury from complex waste streams, such as those produced by offshore oil platforms and other industries. This nanostructured sorbent has been used to remove mercury from laboratory wastes and is part of an ongoing commercialization effort with Perry Equipment Corporation. Congratulations again, team, on this important award!
