Wang, Peden, and Choi Receive Patent for Heteropoly Acid Salt That Is Insoluble in Polar Solvents

April 2005
Congratulations to ETD's Yong Wang, FSD's Chuck Peden, and Visteon's Saemin Choi for the recent U.S. patent award (#6,815,392) for a metal hetoropoly acid salt that is insoluble in a polar solvent. The team invented a method of making the acid insoluble while still retaining its acid properties. The result is a catalyst that is easier to separate from the product being catalyzed. The patent is a result of an Office of Science project directed at creating a process that would be commercialized by UOP, an international technology licensing company. Congratulations, team!
