Environmental Biomarkers Initiative Lands Nearly $6M for Research Center

September 2007
Congratulations to the Environmental Biomarkers Initiative, led by ETD’s Terri Stewart, on receiving $5.9M to establish the Center for Novel Biomarkers of Response at PNNL. This grant was presented by the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The Center is part of an NIH program to help identify major genetic susceptibility factors for diseases. It will also help develop technologies to measure environmental exposure that may contribute to disease. The Center will be part of a comprehensive program that develops and refines panels of biomarkers and biosensors of biological response to environmental stressors. Key leadership positions will be handled by ETD's Rick Corley and Yuehe Lin and FSD's Joel Pounds, Diana Bigelow, Jon Jacobs, Dick Smith, and Rick Zangar, as well as the University of Utah's John Hoidal.
