Staff Accomplishments

Alan Zacher - Battelle's Latest Distinguished Inventor

November 2008
Alan Zacher joined nine other staff members at PNNL who have been recognized as a Battelle Distinguished Inventor. He has had more than 14 U.S. patents resulting from his work at Battelle or the national laboratories that Battelle manages or co-manages. Alan has worked for the last 12 years as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team developing processes and catalysts for the catalytic conversion of bio-derived feedstock into bulk chemicals. The goal of much of this research has been to create or improve catalytic aqueous phase hydrogenation routes for the production of bulk chemicals from biological sources, such as corn sugars or fermentation derived compounds instead of from petroleum.
