Report on channel project earns praise from the Corps of Engineers Last winter, as underwater explosives were detonated more than 100 times to deepen the Columbia River navigation channel below Portland, PNNL teams were on hand, helping to ensure the blasts complied with requirements to protect freshwater and marine life. After blasting concluded, three staff from PNNL - Tom, Gary and Christa - and two UW researchers authored a final report, which was provided to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The report garnered significant praise from USACE for its quality, and was one of several accolades PNNL has received for its support to the channel improvement effort. Approximately 20 staff worked in various capacities on the river project. Congratulations!
