Dale Knutson to Participate in DOE's Spallation Neutron Source Review

January 2000
In November, ETD's Technical Group Manager Dale Knutson will participate on the DOE Office of Science Spallation Neutron Source project review team. When completed, the $1.411-billion facility will produce the most intense neutron field in the world, allowing scientists to study and improve an array of materials. This is Dale's fourth year chairing the Conventional Facility subcommittee for the review team. He was selected because of his unique experience as a civil engineer from the nuclear field familiar with Office of Science research expectations and user facility concepts. Before working on the Spallation Neutron Source review team, Dale was part of the project team that delivered the multi-million dollar Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory. The DOE's initial reviews focused on the neutron source conceptual design and its ability to meet the performance expectations on the line item. Today's reviews focus on ensuring that the plan for delivery is being implemented technically and meet the requirements for budget and schedule.
