Parsons SEAD-48
Parsons SEAD-48 involves a technical review of a final status survey conducted at the SEAD-48 area of the Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, New York.
The Seneca Army Depot was the storehouse for the U.S. First and Second Armies from the early 1940s until the early 1990s. The base was selected for closure, and remediation activities were started. This base was involved in a variety of activities, some radiological, for the U.S. Army, and Parsons was one of the remediation contractors. The radiological aspects of the remediation are being completed commensurate with state and federal requirements, including closure of some Nuclear Regulatory Commission licenses, primarily using the Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM).
The SEAD-48 area once stored uranium ore and had been remediated. As part of the closure effort, Parsons was contracted to complete a final status survey of the bunkers. PNNL completed a technical review of Parsons' final status survey report to ensure that the content of the report meets the MARSSIM protocols and that the developed conclusions are supported by the data.
