Expert Technical Support for K Basin Sludge Processing

This project is providing senior scientific and technical services to the client to assist in developing the primary project design basis for equipment and methods for handling (i.e., recovering, transporting and storing) and processing Hanford Site K Basin sludges for ultimate disposal. These activities address the unique and complex material behavior issues and design parameters basic to sludges (e.g., interpretation of laboratory-scale results to bulk sludge equipment design, safety issues related to handling uranium metal fuel particulate within the sludge and impact of hydrogen bubble growth on stored bulk sludge and its container).
