Calibrations

PNNL manages a world-class radiation instrument calibration facility. The facility is designed and equipped to calibrate all types of standard portable and semi-portable radiation protection instruments that are necessary for work on the Hanford site. This includes capabilities for high- and low-dose/activity neutron, beta, and gamma radiation instruments. The facility provides a wide variety of related services including measuring and test equipment calibrations, instrument and detector repair and performance testing. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-traceable certifications of alpha and beta sources are also available. Staff are also available to assist in the design and specification of instruments for special applications. Customers include the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford Site and industrial clients. Traceability to NIST is maintained through PNNL'S NVLAP-accredited Calibration Laboratory for Ionizing Radiation (laboratory code 105020). Transfer standard calibrations are also available through the Secondary Calibration Laboratory.
