Shielded Facility Operations

The shielded facilities are critical to the Radiochemical Processing Laboratory mission and vision. PNNL used the hot cells are used to conduct work with highly radioactive materials. The hot cells also serve as the radioactive material receipt and distribution center for ~70% of the radioactive materials worked with in the research laboratories. The High Level Radiochemistry Facility, Shielded Analytical Laboratory hot cell complexes and the stand-alone mini-cells bench-scale to pilot-scale work with wide varieties and forms of radioactive materials. PNNL can perform all sample receipt and experimentation and analysis activities within one location, eliminating the need for multiple shipments of radioactive samples.
