Research Capabilities

Analysis-Based Development

PNNL staff are experienced in the design and analysis of mechanical systems using a suite of simulation tools in concert to develop effective engineering simulations of these systems. Our staff has the knowledge and experience to step into any phase of the design process and use simulation tools to provide the results required to move on to the next phase of design. The simulations can supplant physical prototypes in many cases, thus streamlining the design process.

Applications

  • Visualization and design concepts
  • Structural analysis
  • System kinematics
  • Evaluation of system dynamics
  • Animation of mechanical systems
  • Robotic path planning
  • Programming of robotic systems
  • Simulation of complex systems

PNNL staff members have access to the following design software packages:

  • ANSYS
  • SolidWorks
  • COSMOS
  • MATLAB
  • AutoCAD

Staff members also have access to a variety of other software packages on a project need basis.
