Shrub-Steppe Restoration
PNNL researches have gained valuable experience in restoration of shrub-steppe habitat from their work on the Hanford Site. The site is characterized by hot summers, cold winters and less than 18-cm of precipitation per year. Mitigation for habitat loss and restoration of remediated areas have been conducted over the past 20 years on the 560-square miles that encompass the site. PNNL researchers have implemented and monitored various restoration strategies to determine the best practices for semi-arid habitats (Sagebrush Mitigation Report ).
