Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and High Bay

An important capability for conducting mid- to large-scale experimental work on fluid dynamics is the Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and high bay facility. This laboratory is equipped with a suite of full-scale and pilot-scale slurry testing equipment including an 18,000-gallon flat-bottomed tank, a 13,100-gallon elliptical-bottom tank and a 9,800- gallon cone-bottom slurry makeup tank. The facility is configured to provide up to 120 feet (equivalent to a 12-story building) of vertical test loop.

This non-radioactive, high bay facility is equipped with slurry flow test loops, mixers and transfer pumps. The facility also houses a material characterization laboratory and a simulant development laboratory to support high bay test operations.
