Mercury Analytical Laboratory

In the Mercury Analytical Laboratory, researchers perform ultra trace level (picogram/liter or part-per-trillion) analysis of mercury and methylmercury in water samples and sub part per billion level (ng/g) analysis of total and methylmercury in tissue and sediment using analytical methods developed at the Marine Sciences Laboratory.

The Mercury Analytical Laboratory provides the following capabilities for it's clients:

  • State-of-the-art analytical methods and instrumentation
  • Low-method detection limit mercury and monomethylmercury analytical methods
  • Capability to determine mercury and monomethylmercury in soils, sediments, water, biological tissues and other matrices
  • Capability to perform mercury speciation measurements in water, sediments and tissues
  • Ultra-clean sample handling and processing capabilities using ultra-clean sampling bottles
  • Analytical procedures and data reports are provided that follow a rigorous quality assurance process
  • EPA Level 4 reporting capability
  • Advice and training on EPA Method 1669 - Trace Clean Sample Collection Techniques.
