Bruce currently serves as Director of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting Consortium, a collaborative effort among more than 400 cities, counties, states, utilities, and other street and area lighting partners to develop and share information and tools related to implementation of high-performance LED lighting. Having started at the Lab in 1986, Bruce's career included nearly two decades in Washington, D.C., during which time he managed programs related to Buildings Energy Efficiency and Hydrogen Safety. In the latter capacity he also served as a U.S. representative to the International Energy Agency Hydrogen Safety Task 19 Agreement. Bruce relocated to the Portland, Oregon office in 2006 to manage the GATEWAY Solid-State Lighting Technology Demonstration Program for DOE and established the Consortium as an outgrowth of that activity. He remains involved in a variety of projects related to high-performance lighting.
