Biography

Dr. Loni Peurrung is Group Manager of the Applied Materials & Manufacturing Group in the Energy & Environment Directorate (EED).

Her technical expertise is in transport processes as they relate to environmental cleanup and waste management. Previously, Loni served as Program Manager in EED’s Nuclear Sciences Division. From 2014 to early 2018, she was on assignment at the Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant, where technical issues were delaying design and construction. There, she was responsible for planning a full-scale test of redesigned mixing vessels for the Pretreatment Facility. From 2013-2014, she also served as the director of the National Laboratory team supporting the project. From 2011-2013, she chaired the Large Scale Integrated Mixing System Expert Review Team, which was created by DOE as a quasi-independent group to review approaches for resolving mixing system performance technical issues at WTP and at tank farms.

Since joining PNNL in 1993, Loni's experience includes eight years as a line manager —Advanced Processing and Applications Group Manager from 1999-2002 and Materials Division Director from 2002-2007 — and serving as director of the Nuclear Science and Legacy Waste Project Management Office from 2007-2012.

Loni earned her B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota and her Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
