Biography

Kathleen Judd is the Deputy Director of PNNL's Electricity Infrastructure & Buildings Division (EI&BD), a research organization of more than 400 staff members in six technical groups focused on accelerating the transition to a decarbonized, efficient, and resilient energy system. Kathleen partners with the division leadership team to shape the division’s research strategy, organization, and operations, with a focus on recruiting and optimized workforce planning, mentoring and career development programs, maintaining advanced research facilities and equipment, and fostering a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace.

As a research leader, Katheen has emphasized the integrated role of technology, institutional policy, and individual behavior to achieve energy efficiency and resilience objectives. During her tenure at PNNL, Kathleen has worked with various federal agencies on planning for energy- and water-efficient, resilient buildings through institutional change efforts. She has also been a technical advisor for PNNL's own campus sustainability efforts, including its Net Zero Emissions and Energy Resilient Operations (NZERO) initiative, which aims to transition PNNL to 24/7 carbon-free energy operations while using PNNL's campuses as a research testbed for novel technologies and control methods.
