Dr. Saurabh Biswas joined PNNL in 2022 as Social Scientist in the Energy Policy & Economics group. He studies the complex relationship of energy infrastructures, technologies, social institutions and sustainable futures. With a particular focus on historically marginalized populations and places, his research advances understanding on the critical aspects of design, implementation and assessment of energy technologies. Saurabh’s research has been applied to planning, decision-making and stakeholder participation in energy transition programs at the local community to national levels.

Prior to joining PNNL, Saurabh was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Energy and Society at Arizona State University, co-leading a multi-year applied research program on energy system transitions and socio-economic growth in Sierra Leone. He has co-led and participated in several energy for sustainable futures applied research projects in Brazil, Nepal, Uganda, Bolivia, Philippines and Puerto Rico. As a community-engaged scholar, Saurabh founded the open knowledge initiative called ‘Let Communities Lead’ which showcases case studies of community-led local energy transitions from around the globe.
