Spill Phenomenology

PNNL is modeling spills over permeable and non-permeable surfaces. The objective is to model the overland flow or spreading of spilled nonaqueous liquids coupled with infiltration into a soil subsurface. The goal is to delineate to what extent the spill area can be related to the volume spilled and to predict the changing surface liquid content during the time that the spill is visible.

Accomplishments

Two PNNL reports were published during FY03. A model for spill movement coupled with simplified infiltration was developed and tested.
